The Song with the Golden Words

There's a challenge people who are interested on auditioning for singing contests always have to face, their song choice. The song an auditioned should present must contain the environment to showcase the best abilities of the singer. When choosing a song to audition singers must wear the shoes of the people who will be listening to them, what do they like? what is the nature of the show/band/event you are auditioning for? How can you put in use your singinglessons to perform your best in your audition?

My advise as a Boca Raton Vocal Coach is, listen to the top 40 songs, a new song is always well received because is fresh in people's mind, pick 4 or 5 and discuss them with your vocal coach, he or she will tell you if the songs you picked really showcase your range, control and tone, once you get that advise go for the working time and practice that song like there was not another one in the world.
Also, make sure you don't imitate, make sure you own your version of the song, create a version that fits YOU and have fun with it.
If you need more advise feel free to contact me, I teach Singing Lessons in DelrayBeach Fl and also do Vocal Coaching vi Skype.

The Good, the bad and the AWESOME!

There are performances that move you, some other ones disgust you and the most special get stuck in your head and don't leave for days. As a vocal coach I latch in to the three of them for different reasons.
A good singer must always aim to give the best they have learned with their voice trainer. When you give only the best of your vocal abilities, your moment becomes memorable.

Too many times we find that singers deliver only what is needed. The reality is that "the walls have ears", and what I mean by that is that you never know who's listening, it could be your biggest opportunity, your vocal coach or the worst review. Every time you are given the opportunity to sing you should take it like if your life depended on it.

So my dearest singers, do not waste the chances to wow anyone next to you, you have invested the time in your voice lessons so every time you use your voice to sing angels must come down to bless your audience and that is only achieved by delivering awesome vocal performances, not good enough and definitely not bad ones.
Enjoy and keep on singing

Picking the Proper Song

Many singers make the mistake of choosing their favorite song to sing in a competition. Although you may love the way the song sounds, it might not be your best choice. It is important to choose a song that will work with your vocal range, personality, and the type of competition. For example, if you are auditioning for The Voice, it is a good idea to pick a top 40 song. However, you should not mimic the artist. Put your own spin on it.

On the other hand, when auditioning for American Idol, the best strategy is to pick a really well known, "All American" song that the audience and judges will identify with. Again, you should be yourself and sing it your way, not simply copying the artist.

For any competition, when choosing your song, it is also important to choose a song that fits you. For example, if you have the range of Johnny Cash, don't choose a Mariah Carey Song, and vice versa. If you have a solid southern accent, rap is not going to be your best pick for competition. Also, if you look and move like William Hung, probably don't choose a Ricky Martin song unless you are going for laughs of course!

How to nail you Audition for The Voice

Are you going to audition for The Voice? here are a couple of tips that will help you deliver the best of your voice and vocal performance.

1. Breath properly: so many issues can be prevented with a proper breathing technique. Make sure you are using the large portion fo your lungs all the time, police your shoulders, fi the move up and down when you breathe you're probably doing it wrong. Learn breathing techniques from your Vocal Coach and improve your overall singing.

2. Know your lyrics: When your mind is on minor details like not knowing your lyrics or how you look or anything else that is not your breathing and your pitch you are loosing points. Make sure your Vocal Coach train you to cover those small detail so you don't have to think about them.

4. Use your vocal tools: Get to know your voice, Ask your Singing Teacher to help you recognize your tools, your inflections, ornaments, your pivotal range points, your song and your instrument, at the end it is you.

3. Have fun: If you are stressed, or having a bad time delivering your audition fix that, enjoy the moment, savor the opportunity and embrace your talent, believe you will do good and expect those result from yourself so your 3 minutes of spot light are a breeze, a successful one.

Enjoy!
